Creative Destructions
Torn strips of tape conceal a structured underpainting, and must be removed to actualize the artWork. Removing the tape destroys the surface painting demonstrating Destruction as a process of Creation. The work is received with tape still attached, offering a tactile opportunity to experience the artistic process, creating an image. In choosing which pieces of tape to remove, when, how and how much, the patron in a sense, becomes the artist. This idea illustrates much of what I love about my art practice. My artWorks are often a tool for engaging conversation with people. I want to learn how others view things, what they find important, and why. I design paintings that are open to multiple interpretations, panels that interchange creating new images… …at the root of my art practice is this sense of unifying opposites, this dance between duality and holism, or self and other, or yellow and blue….perhaps its the dance of my perception, my fleeting, precious illusion of discernment… finding the discreet granular forms and structures in the midst of this vast web of interconnection.
